Dropbox – A great tool for syncing your data

If you’re anything like me, you’ll have pictures, music, data files (and goodness knows what else) saved on quite a few devices.   Wouldn’t it be nice to bring all those file into one place??

Whatever devices you use, whether it be your Laptop, Desktop, iPhone, iPod, iPad and even your PC at work, wherever your files are saved, you can use Dropbox to bring them all into one place.

It works with Windows, Mac and Linux too.  It’s also very easy to use – so lets take a closer look!

What is Dropbox?

Dropbox is basically software that syncs all your files online and across your devices.

If you store files from your Laptop into your Dropbox, they’ll be instantly available on any of your other devices that you’ve installed Dropbox on.  Dropbox works with Windows, Mac, and Linux!  And, because a copy of your files are stored on Dropbox’s secure servers, you can also access them from any of your devices simply by logging into to your account using the Dropbox website.

Dropbox offers an initial 2Gb of space, absoulutely free.  However, if you have more then 2Gb of data strewn across your many devices (which I’m guessing most people do!) then Dropbox do offer a paid subscription service, which offers users more space.

You can get either 50Gb of space for $9.99 a month, or up to 100Gb of space for $19.99 a month, which is great for syncing your music collection, photos or movies.

I’ve been using Dropbox for a few days now and will continue to do so as it’s a very good application.  It’s easy to use and best of all, it’s free.

iPad killer ‘The Slate’ is coming… here’s a preview!

Information, web links and pictures about HP’s so-called ‘iPad killer’ have been bouncing around tech sites for some time now.  It now suggests that HP are preparing to unleash their iPad killer (ok, too harsh… lets say rival) in the coming months, in order to knock Apple into touch.  It’s called the HP Slate.

Few details have been leaked about this technological gizmo, however HP have been pushing that the Slate will support Flash, compared to the iPad, which doesn’t.

HP’s Phil McKinney blogged recently with the message:

“With this slate product, you’re getting a full web browsing experience in the palm of your hand. No watered-down internet, no sacrifices.”

Together with this statement HP released a video preview in order to show its fans just how much of an iPad killer (sorry again…. rival) it will be.

Ok, so the video is only 30 seconds long, but it gives you a taster of the features that aren’t packed into the iPad.  It even shows that the Slate will feature two cameras (yep, two!) one for taking photos and video recording and also a front facing camera, possibly for Skype video chat.  It also shows that their will be support for SD cards and a connection for linking up to a larger screen via HDMI.

However, there are still no firm dates for its arrival and with Google already on the case to produce a similar piece of kit (with the Google Chrome OS tablet coming soon!) HP really need to get their skates on.

So, will the Slate be good enough to stop the iPad in its tracks?  How will it compare?

Let us know via the comments.
