Xbox360 update is here – USB storage at last!

Xbox 360 users can now load games or videos through USB flash drives.

Today, at some point, as promised by Microsoft all Xbox 360 owners will be asked to update to the latest firmware via Xbox Live.  Then, once the update has completed you will be able to plug USB memory sticks into your slots – at long last!!!

This means that you can save all your games, profiles and anything else you like, without having to carry around a HDD with you.  The only things users will not be able to load are original Xbox games or MP3/WMA music files.

SanDisk is already taking orders for a pre-configured Xbox 360 branded flash drive, which will include the update, according to the company’s site.   However, once the update has been done, simply make use of those spare USB sticks that you have lying around!   Just make sure they’re over 1Gb in size up to a maximum of 16Gb….  so forget that 500Gb drive you were going to use!

Enjoy all Xbox 360 fans!

Sony to drop Linux support for PS3

Any owners of a Playstation 3 will be prevented from being able to use the “install other OS” option following the latest firmware update for the console this week.

The new update is due to arrive on Thursday 1st April, but Sony bosses have said (via the PS Europe Blog) that this is not an elaborate hoax or an April Fools Day joke!

Sony says the move is due to nebulous “security concerns”, although we’re not convinced that all PS3 owners who have been running Linux quite happily, and for some time now on their consoles, will be pleased with the decision.

There is always the option to disregard the updates of course, but that means that you won’t be able to access the PlayStation Network or play games on-line.
