Max Jacob… Born an angel

The 27th of December 2009 will be a date that my wife Melanie and I will never forget.  Ever.

Max Jacob, our fourth son was born an angel.

I can’t even to begin to describe the feelings of emptiness that both Melanie and I had that day.  The endless questions of ‘why our little boy??’ echoded around our heads constantly.  Everything was going so well and now, everything was just, well….. wrong.

He came into the world at precisely 11:00pm and when I looked him, through a cascade of tears streaming down my face, he was just perfect.  A beautiful angel.

Weighing 4lb 13oz, he was a surprisingly good weight for 34 weeks.  Beautiful really is an understatement.  He had perfect, tiny hands and feet.   We enjoyed having lots of cuddles with him, talked about his brothers and how we would all miss him so much.  I held his tiny hand, told him how much we all loved him and told him that we’d see him again some day.  He lay next to us all night until the morning, when we dressed him in a nice blue and white outfit.

Then, he was gone.

Somehow, I managed to find the strength to carry his tiny coffin during the funeral service.  I know he enjoyed his last carry from his daddy, because he gave me the strength and courage to do it.

Not one day goes by that we don’t think about Max.  Our three other sons, Joe Daniel, Ben Thomas and Sam James all miss their little baby brother so much.  They all know he’s an angel now and they all picked the brighest star in the sky, as they know Max is looking down on us, keeping us all safe.  He’s always with us, everyday.

Our time with him was brief and the memories we have are very precious.

The messages of support we recieved from family and friends after Max’s death were all amazing.  We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who sent their words of support, love and kindness during this time.  Your support helped both of us through.

To our beautiful baby box Max,

We miss you so much, but we know you have a job to do.

Spread your beautiful angel wings and watch over us all.

We love you so much and will never forget you.

An angel wrote in the Book of Life
Our baby’s date of birth
Then whispered as she closed the book
Too beautiful for Earth

A moving testament to your son. Well done for having the strength to say this publicly because it may help others who have gone through the same experience.
